Wonder - Class Novel

In class we are looking at the novel 'Wonder'.

It is about a boy with a deformed face who is entering school for the first time.
It is an amazing story, which I think works well at the beginning of the year.  It works well with our school values of honesty, relationships, and respect and it also looks at the really important issue of not judging others.

Today we learnt how to create our own Tagxedo's, we discovered how to change the shape, font,
colours and shape to personalise our key words.  I think Tagxedo is a really effective way to present students work.  I love how you can use templates to create a shape that suits your brainstorm.

Story Bird

Last week we had an Author visit our class to tell us about his process of getting his first picture book published.  After his visit we decided to create our own picture books using Story Bird.

We had so much fun!

Minecraft for Algebra

For practising our patterns in Algebra, the students created a pattern in minecraft and then emailed it to me and explained what the rule for their pattern was.

A Very Windy Day!

Last Thursday, was an extremely windy day!  The Shakespeare writing group went outside and experienced the wind.  They listened to it whistle around the corners of the buildings, they watched the way everything looked different when it was windy.  Birds struggled, leaves and litter blew around the ground and they experienced how cold it was, as their noses and fingers went numb.

We had fun, we got freezing cold and some of us even had piles of leaves thrown at us!  Thanks boys!

What an experience though.  Take a look at the writing the boys created.  I am very proud of them.  I think they are quite proud of themselves too :)

Last week in P2

Welcome to P2 Kody!  We hope you are enjoying being in our class :)

We have started our writing groups.  We are really enjoying writing about POPCORN!

Jorja drew a beautiful and very colourful picture of herself this week.  Great job, Jorja!

We are learning about making decisions and choosing the best options for our inquiry this term.  This week we focused on bullying.  If we were being bullied what could we do?  The class (well, they boys) voted that we fight back and then we considered the outcomes and consequences of this decision.  We came to the conclusion that it was not a good option.  Funny that :)  Great process to work through and we had some really good discussions.

We need egg shells!

Our class Gardening Group have created a herb garden in the outside courtyard of Puarenga.  We would like to start collecting egg shells to crush up and put into the garden  to help enrich the soil.

See this page for more information:

If you could save any egg shells you use at home and bring them to school, our Gardening Group would really appreciate it! :)
