Last week in P2

Welcome to P2 Kody!  We hope you are enjoying being in our class :)

We have started our writing groups.  We are really enjoying writing about POPCORN!

Jorja drew a beautiful and very colourful picture of herself this week.  Great job, Jorja!

We are learning about making decisions and choosing the best options for our inquiry this term.  This week we focused on bullying.  If we were being bullied what could we do?  The class (well, they boys) voted that we fight back and then we considered the outcomes and consequences of this decision.  We came to the conclusion that it was not a good option.  Funny that :)  Great process to work through and we had some really good discussions.

We need egg shells!

Our class Gardening Group have created a herb garden in the outside courtyard of Puarenga.  We would like to start collecting egg shells to crush up and put into the garden  to help enrich the soil.

See this page for more information:

If you could save any egg shells you use at home and bring them to school, our Gardening Group would really appreciate it! :)

A Long Term :)

Who looks like they need a holiday???  Haha Mr Law

Anzac Day - We will remember them.

In preparation for Anzac Day we explored this website http://www.abc.net.au/innovation/gallipoli/ which gives a 3D representation of what happened at Gallipoli on the 25th of April 1915.  After watching the video clips and discussing them as a class, students researched NZ men and women who went to war and represented our country.  They then completed a pastel drawing of their person and provided a small piece of information about them for our classroom wall.

Passion Time

In P2 students chose a topic that they were passionate about to study for 1 hour a week.  They had regular meetings with the teacher and had to reflect on their progress.

To end the term and the unit students were asked to present what they had achieved during our passion time sessions to the class.  It was AMAZING to see the range of subjects the students studied and the diverse way that they presented their information and learning.  I especially loved how each one of them stood up in front of the class and confidently spoke about the subject that they are most passionate about.  So cool!
From Go-kart building, to solar systems, to dreams for the future, to informative blogs.  My students made me so proud.  I am really looking forward to the creative ways they will present their projects on Exploration!
